Mexico - Daily Life - Ciudad Juarez hosts group quinceaneraThe city of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, one of the world's most violent urban areas, sponsored a group quinceañera for some 150 girls from low-income families who otherwise could not have afforded the ceremony. A quiceañera is a rite-of-passage ritual for many 15 year-old girls in Latin American countries, similar to a 'sweet sixteen' or debutante coming-out party in the US. Paloma Lozoya is one of the girls selected for the quinceanera by the city. She lives in the Maria Niña Shelter for Girls but is at home in the Urbivilla del Cedros low-cost housing project for summer vacation. She shares the 500 sq. ft. house with her mother, Erika Contreras and six other siblings. Some of the accessories that Erika has bought for the quinceañera and the party afterwards.
